Software Specialist Dortmund

ECU Programming & Cloning

As a software specialist, we work on control units where the OBD port reaches its limits: directly on the module, in Bench or Boot mode via pinning.

Key takeaways

  • Pure software specialist for control units — not a mechanical workshop.
  • Work performed directly on the ECU in Bench or Boot mode, not via the regular OBD port.
  • ECU cloning transfers the relevant data set 1:1 to a replacement unit for recommissioning.
  • Programming requires the removed control unit — in person in Dortmund or by shipping it to us.

What is ECU programming and cloning?

ECU programming adjusts a module's existing data set in a targeted way. Cloning transfers that data set 1:1 onto another compatible control unit — for example when a faulty module must be replaced without losing the vehicle-specific configuration.

As a software specialist we offer only the software side of the work. Mechanical work on the vehicle itself is explicitly not part of our service.

Why Bench or Boot mode instead of OBD?

The OBD port is designed for regular vehicle diagnostics. In complex cases — such as an unresponsive, damaged or locked control unit — that standard path is not enough. In those cases the work is done directly on the removed ECU in Bench or Boot mode via pinning, addressing the module independently of the vehicle bus. This enables a more precise diagnosis and makes cases solvable that would otherwise be out of reach.

The process

Capture the fault pattern

Vehicle data, control unit type and previous diagnostic results are recorded and assessed.

Direct access on the ECU

Depending on the module, work is done in Bench or Boot mode — detached from the vehicle and without the OBD detour.

Programming or cloning

The data set is backed up, analysed and then reprogrammed or transferred to a replacement unit.

Return & function test

The processed control unit is returned with documentation so recommissioning stays traceable.
